Happy Groundhog Day
Unlike Punxatawney Phil, I have not been hibernating for the past week, even if I have been pretty absent from the internet. Life’s just been a bit busy and hectic of late, but I think I’ve finally made it through the mound of emails in my inbox and I’m nearly caught up on laundry. We’ve had a ridiculously mild winter here so far, which makes me wonder if anyone around these parts is all that concerned about whether or not the groundhog sees his shadow or not. I suppose the same can’t be said for Maine. They actually had some snow on the ground when I was up there this weekend. I’d almost forgotten what the stuff looked like. Also, I spotted this on an SUV on I-95: Interestingly enough, that “I Hate Winter” message...
Enjoying the Ride
Earlier this week, I was down in Delaware for the day job. My dog, Jack came along for the trip. Delaware may not be known for a harsh winter climate, but this Tuesday, it was unusually warm for January. I had some time to kill so I made good on my resolution to enjoy the ride. Jack and I explored Cape Henlopen State Park. This was Jack’s first experience with saltwater. He was very confused by how peculiar it tasted. He kept trying to lay down in the shallow water only to become startled when a wave smacked him in the butt. This weekend, we have to travel up to Maine where it will be significantly colder than it was in Delaware on Tuesday. I think we’ll skip the beach this time...
Saying Goodbye
My Grandma Grosso passed away last night. She was 92 years old, and of tough Scottish stock. In our family, she was known as The Queen, and so it feels a little weird knowing that our queen is no longer with us. I thought I would take a few minutes to share some facts about our family’s matriarch. Grandma had an almost pathological hatred of cameras. It’s a good thing she was born when she was, because I don’t know how she would have survived in an era of camera phones and Facebook. She was not an athletic woman in any way, but the minute someone pulled out a camera, you should have seen how fast she ran out of room. It was like she suddenly morphed into Jackie Joyner Kersee. The only other time I ever saw Grandma move that fast was when insects...
Enjoy the Ride
Is it too late to make New Year’s resolutions? I’m still more or less keeping up with the ones I did make. I know, that’s not too impressive since we are still less than a month into the year, but I came up with one more that I think is worthy of being added to the list. It was a result of a conversation I had with my boyfriend over the weekend. In a roundabout way it has to do with Route 66 and some commentary that was included with the Cars DVD that related how years ago, road trips were as much about the trip as they were the destination. The same isn’t really true anymore. Now, most of us, myself included are so focused on our destinations we have no time to really enjoy the ride. I guess you could think of this in a metaphorical sense,...
