I should be sleeping right now
It’s about three in the afternoon, and technically, I should be asleep right now. That was my plan, anyway. Apparently, I would make a pretty lousy vampire (well, at least the old-fashioned kind who sleep all day and are up all night and don’t sparkle in the sunlight.) The reason I was hoping to be asleep right now, is because like an old-fashioned vampire, I will be up all night. Tonight is the night of the library lock-in and I will be bravely donning my chaperone t-shirt for a night of fun, games and sleeplessness. Wish me luck! Something tells me that tomorrow, I will have no difficulty whatsoever in being asleep at three in the afternoon.
My week in very brief review
A short while ago I realized that the Fun Friday blog post I was supposed to write and get up on the Class of 2K11 blog had not in fact been written despite the reminder on my calendar. I rallied the troops (aka Marshmallow Peeps) and this is the end result. Yesterday, I got to meet fellow Fluxians Charlotte Bennardo and Natalie Zaman (even though I did not get to spend nearly enough time with Natalie). They wrote this book: also they are wonderfully cool and fun people, but then they are authors, so that pretty much goes without saying. Since my last post, I learned that my local bookstore, the great and wonderful Clinton Book Shop redid their display window. This is what it looks like now: My launch event at the store is now officially less than two weeks away....
Snow Day
I woke up this morning to a pretty thick blanket of snow on the ground. We’ve had a few snowstorms this season, but this one was the biggest so far. It was enough to give all the kids around here a snow day, but as my friend Sam points out even grown ups get to enjoy snow days once in awhile. I had been scheduled to do a storytime at the library this evening, and my theme appropriately enough was winter and snow. While those snowy stories would have been perfect for today, something tells me there wouldn’t have been any brave souls venturing out tonight for some stories at the library. Besides, with all the sledding I saw going on this afternoon, the kids would have probably been too tired to stay awake for an evening storytime. My snow day was mostly...
Showing Off Some Christmas Loot
It’s hard to believe it’s already been four days since Christmas. I feel like I’m still getting caught up on things here. I had a great Christmas, and hope you did too! I wound up with a lot of awesome loot, like the framed poster of my book cover that’s shown here. I suspected that my boyfriend whose perfect present-giving skills have already been documented had something up his sleeve after about the fifth time he asked for a high resolution image of my book cover (not much gets past me!) but I wasn’t sure quite what he was planning until I opened up this present on Christmas day. It’s already found a home on my bedroom wall. He also managed to track down the alarm clock that we both had as kids, but I’ll share that...
Celestial bodies is the theme for tonight’s storytime
Celestial bodies, which is really just a big way of saying the the sun, the moon and the stars is the theme for tonight’s storytime at the Pocono Township Library, in Tannersville, PA. In my bag of tricks for tonight’s reading are What the Sun Sees/What the Moon Sees by Nancy Tafuri, The Dog Who Loved the Moon by Cristina Garcia, Kitten’s First Full Moon by Kevin Henkes, Stars! Stars! Stars! by Bob Barner, How to Catch a Star by Oliver Jeffers, Sun & Moon by Lisa Desimini, The Sun’s Day by Mordicai Gerstein, and Star Climbing by Lou Fancher. Had I miraculously figured out a way to bring my iPod back from the dead, I might have entertained the kids with one of my favorite They Might Be Giants tracks, “Why Does the Sun Shine?”...
I’m not here today, I’m over at The Book Scout
